Walking Tour of Liguria & Cinque Terre
Traverse the breathtaking beauty of Liguria via the most notable paths and roads in the region, encountering world heritage sites, ancient architecture and magnificent views along the way.
Fly to Pisa
On arrival to Pisa airport take a shuttle bus, payable locally, to Pisa Centrale Station, and board your connecting train to La Spezia, included. Check in to your hotel, located near to the boat departure point to Cinque Terre. You will also find the train station within a 15-minute walk.
Palmaria Island
Today, hop on the bus from La Spezia to Portovenere, where you will take the short boat trip to Palmaria Island. Here, you can follow the circular path around this beautiful island. Boasting the title of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and famous for its marble quarry, the views and landscape here are fantastic. On one side, you can enjoy an incredible panorama of the Bay of Poets, the resplendent village of Portovenere and the port of La Spezia, and on the other side you are rewarded with seemingly endless views of glistening blue waters, and sky! To get back to the hotel, simply take the boat transfer back to La Spezia.
Riomaggiore
Today, hop on the train (duration approximately 8 minutes) to Riomaggiore. On arrival, follow the path uphill, through beautiful vineyards, to the monastery of the Madonna di Montenero. Continue along the path to the Telegrafo fortress and on to Campiglia, from where a spectacular path descends to Portovenere. Riomaggiore is the most southern village of the Cinque Terre. A labyrinth of winding alleys and steps, it’s a fascinating place to explore. The village is brought to life with colourful, little boats and fishermen selling their wares. And tasty seafood restaurants and cosy bars, where you can lazily watch the world go by, abound.
Monterosso & Ounta Mesco
This morning, take the train to Monterosso (duration approximately 30 minutes) and check into your hotel for the next four nights, the Hotel Cinque Terre, or similar. You'll find Monterosso train station and the beach, both within easy reach. In the afternoon, we suggest trekking through the misty olive groves and pine woods until you reach Punta Mesco and enjoy unique views of the Cinque Terre and its islands. Return by foot or take the train back to Monterosso, and return to your hotel.
Corniglia & Vernazza
Take the 8-minute train journey to Corniglia, today. Corniglia is on a promontory (a high area of land or rock that sticks out into the sea) with two small beaches on either side. Walk to the medieval fishing village of Vernazza, arguably the most beautiful of all the Cinque Terre’s villages. Its medieval castle, Belforte, was built in the mid-1500s, and is a must-see for any visitors to the village. The tiny port is bursting with a mix of pastel hues and vibrant shades, and its charming piazza is filled with fantastic restaurants and bars. Continue on your journey and enjoy wonderful views of the surrounding olive groves, vineyard and sparkling sea. Return by train later today to your hotel.
Madonna di Soviore, Cigoletta & Corniglia
From Monterosso, take the Road of the Sanctuaries, a particularly scenic path that winds through the villages of Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza. Veering along the coast, it connects the Madonna di Soviore sanctuary, Cigoletta and the village of Corniglia. Return to Monterosso by train.
Trek to Manarola
Take a train to Corniglia. From here you will follow a trekking path to Manarola and the beautiful Via dell’Amore. Perched on a cliff, stretching 70 metres above sea level, Manarola is one of the most charming and romantic villages in the Cinque Terre. Its emblematic multicoloured houses, which face out onto the sea are truly something to behold, while its tiny piazza boasts some of the best seafood restaurant in the entire region. Return by train to Monterosso.
Return Home
After breakfast, check out of your hotel and take the train back to Pisa Centrale, and hop on the shuttle bus, payable locally, back to the airport for your return journey.
